Mentoring at Yesoid
At Yesoid, mentoring offers calm, consistent support for young people who may be struggling at home, in school, or within the wider community. Many feel misunderstood or disengaged and benefit from having a trusted adult who listens, understands, and offers guidance without judgement.
Our mentoring is rooted in early intervention. By offering timely support, we help young people build confidence, strengthen emotional wellbeing, and develop the skills they need to make positive choices for their future.
What mentoring looks like
Mentoring at Yesoid is relationship-based and tailored to each young person. Sessions take place in safe, supervised settings, with safeguarding always prioritised.
Sessions typically run weekly and are scheduled at times that work for both the young person and their mentor, including during the day or evening. This flexibility helps ensure support is accessible to young people who may be excluded from school or on reduced timetables.
Mentoring is youth-led and typically includes:
-
Time to talk, with mentors listening carefully to each young person’s experiences and concerns
-
Shared activities such as pool, table tennis, and board games, which help build trust and encourage natural conversation
-
Gentle support with reflection, problem-solving, and decision-making
This activity-based approach helps mentoring feel natural, supportive, and engaging.
How mentoring supports positive outcomes
Through mentoring, young people develop a stronger sense of self and a greater ability to cope with everyday challenges. Having a trusted adult helps them feel heard and understood, reducing feelings of isolation and frustration.
Mentoring supports young people to:
-
Build emotional awareness and learn healthier ways to manage feelings
-
Develop communication skills that support relationships with parents, siblings, school staff, and peers
-
Strengthen trust in adults and positive role models
-
Improve engagement with education and daily routines
-
Make safer, more considered choices
By offering steady guidance and encouragement, mentoring helps young people move forward with increased resilience and confidence in themselves.
A trusted and culturally sensitive approach
Yesoid’s mentoring is delivered within a strong safeguarding framework and with a deep understanding of the cultural context of the community we serve. All mentors are carefully selected, DBS-checked, and hold a minimum Level 2 mentoring qualification accredited by Open Awards. Mentors receive regular safeguarding training and ongoing continuous professional development, ensuring they are well-equipped to support young people safely, professionally, and effectively.
Our approach recognises that every young person is different. Mentoring remains flexible and responsive to changing needs, while maintaining consistency and reliability. This balance of structure and understanding is key to building relationships that last.
Accessing mentoring support
Mentoring at Yesoid is offered as part of our wider youth provision and is available to young people who would benefit from additional one-to-one guidance and support. Referrals may come from families, schools, or community partners.
