Mentoring Policy
1. Introduction
Yesoid Youth Club is committed to providing high-quality, culturally sensitive, and safe
mentoring for all young people who use our services. This policy sets out our approach to
mentoring, including safeguarding, mental health support, and respect for cultural needs.
2. Purpose of Mentoring
The purpose of mentoring at Yesoid Youth Club is to:
Support the personal, social, and emotional development of young people
Provide positive role models and consistent, trusted adult relationships
Help young people build life skills, resilience, and confidence
Encourage participation, inclusion, and well-being
3. Guiding Principles
All mentoring relationships at Yesoid Youth Club will:
Be built on mutual respect and trust
Be youth-led, empowering the young person
Respect cultural and religious values, including modesty, gender-separation, and appropriate
language and behaviour
Promote the safety and well-being of all participants
4. Recruitment and Training of Mentors
All mentors must:
Be recruited through a safe and fair process
Provide references and complete a DBS check
Undergo induction and ongoing training, including:
Safeguarding
Mental health awareness
Cultural sensitivity and working within Orthodox Jewish values
Communication and listening skills
Boundaries and confidentiality
5. Matching Mentors and Mentees
Young people will be matched with a mentor based on their needs, preferences, and shared
interests
Parents/carers will be consulted and involved where appropriate
6. Confidentiality and Safeguarding
Mentors will respect young people’s confidentiality but must report any safeguarding
concerns immediately to the Safeguarding Lead
All safeguarding concerns will be managed in line with our Safeguarding Policy
Mentors must never meet one-to-one with a young person in private; sessions must take
place in a visible, safe, and supervised setting
7. Supervision and Support
Mentors will receive regular supervision and support from a named coordinator
Peer support sessions and reflective practice will be encouraged
Mentors will be supported to manage difficult conversations, recognise signs of distress, and
signpost to mental health services if needed
8. Monitoring and Review
Mentoring sessions and outcomes will be recorded (respecting confidentiality)
Feedback will be gathered from young people and mentors
The policy will be reviewed annually and updated as needed
9. Cultural and Religious Sensitivity
All mentors must understand and respect the religious and cultural context of our youth club
This includes being aware of modesty requirements, gender separation, and Shabbos
observance
Mental health support will be delivered in a way that is non-judgmental and aligned with
community values
