As part of your role, you may be asked to provide transportation for your mentee(s) to and from sessions.

Please read the following important points to ensure both your safety and that of the young people you mentor.

Lifts may only be given where written permission has been obtained from the parent or legal guardian. This permission will be secured at the start of the mentoring relationship and must be in place before any transportation is provided.

  • Transportation must only take place for agreed programme purposes. Journeys should be direct and limited to the agreed destination, with no additional stops or detours unless previously authorised. Professional boundaries must be maintained at all times during transport.
  • Where possible, additional safeguarding measures should be considered when a mentor is transporting a mentee on a one-to-one basis.
  • This policy should be read alongside Yesoid’s Safeguarding Policy, which sets out full reporting pathways and procedures. The Safeguarding Policy is available via the footer of the Yesoid website.

Business Insurance Requirement:
If you plan to give your mentee a lift, you are responsible for ensuring you have appropriate business insurance coverage. Standard car insurance policies do not always cover transporting individuals for work-related purposes, including volunteering or mentoring. Therefore, please confirm with your insurance provider that your policy covers transporting a mentee.

Vehicle Roadworthiness:
As a mentor, it is your responsibility to ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy and meets all legal safety requirements. Regular maintenance and checks should be carried out to confirm the car is in good working condition. Additionally, the vehicle must be free of any harmful or dangerous items that could pose a risk to your mentee's safety during transportation.

Use of Cameras for Additional Safety:
When transporting a mentee, we strongly advise installing cameras in your vehicle. This is a precautionary measure to avoid potential misunderstandings or issues during transportation. Cameras can provide necessary documentation in the event of disputes or incidents, ensuring the safety and well-being of both the mentor and mentee.

We are committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for both mentors and mentees, and these steps are crucial to maintaining that safety.
